YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University students eagerly awaiting the tradition of transitioning their tassels to mark the start of their careers will convene at the George Gervin GameAbove Center, 799 North Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti, on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. More than 1,200 students are eligible to participate in the fall commencement ceremony.
The ceremony is for graduates representing the College of Arts & Sciences, Individualized Studies, College of Education, College of Business, GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology, and the College of Health & Human Services will participate. This ceremony is also for students who graduated in August 2023 but did not participate in the April 2023 commencement ceremony.
Gary Torgow will give the keynote at the graduation ceremony and receive an honorary doctor of commercial science degree.
Torgow is a highly accomplished business leader and Huntington Bank's Board of Directors chairman. With a wealth of experience in the banking and financial industry, Torgow has played a pivotal role in shaping the success and growth of Huntington Bank. His strategic vision and leadership have driven the bank's expansion and established its reputation as a trusted financial institution.
Torgow holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Yeshiva University and a law degree from Wayne State University. He is a licensed attorney and member of the State Bar of Michigan.

Doors open at 8 a.m., and early arrival is encouraged to allow time for the entrance screening process. To ensure attendees' safety, individuals can bring the following bags into the arena after inspection: a small clutch no larger than 4" x 6"; a clear plastic/vinyl bag no larger than 12" x 6" with one side completely clear of any logo or decoration; or one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags.
