Eastern Michigan's Move-In Day offers emotional moments, ideal visual opportunities to tell the story of students’ exciting first day on campus

YPSILANTI – More than 2,600 students will be moving into campus housing at Eastern Michigan University this weekend, starting Friday, August 31, when entering freshmen will arrive on campus for their first experience of college.

Friday morning will be filled with emotional moments and memorable images as families help carry the trappings of 2018 college life into Eastern’s various residence halls.

By the numbers: In all, 3429 students will be living on the Eastern campus this fall, including about 800 students who have already moved in because of their jobs or campus activities. About 1,140 entering freshman will check in Friday, with nearly 1,500 upper-class students returning to campus Saturday and Sunday.

When: Freshman Move-In is on Friday August 31, and lasts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Other move-in related events on Friday, August 31

• Family Picnic, Bowen Fieldhouse, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

• Convocation Ceremony at The Convocation Center, 2 - 3 p.m. President James Smith and others will greet the new students during an energizing hour packed with information and excitement.

• Parent and Family Reception at The Convocation Center, 3 - 3:45 pm

• EMU vs. Monmouth Football Game, Rynearson Stadium, 6:34 p.m. kickoff.

Parking details: To help facilitate a smooth move-in process Friday morning, other visitors to campus are asked to leave the closer parking spaces available for new students and their families. These spaces will be needed for students to unload their vehicles as they move in to their on-campus housing and for orientation events. Visitors are asked to not park in the Student Center Lot, Student Center A-1 Lot, Hoyt Lot, Ford Lot, or at any of the metered campus parking spaces near the residence halls. Officers will be on hand to direct traffic until roughly 1 p.m. Several locations that will still be available to park at are the Green Lot #1, on the north side of campus; the Mayhew Lot, the Parking Structure, and the Oakwood South Lot.
