Media Advisory: Giant #YouAreWelcomeHere banner to be unfurled tomorrow in center of Eastern Michigan University campus

23 ft. by 80 ft. banner will be prominently displayed on University's primary parking structure

YPSILANTI --  A 23 ft. by 80 ft. banner will be installed on the Eastern Michigan University campus on Friday, September 1 -- move-in day for new students -- the latest element of the University's #YouAreWelcomeHere international student campaign. Installation is scheduled to take place between 8 - 10 a.m. on the Parking Structure located off of Oakwood St., between Halle Library and the EMU Student Center.

The huge banner is the latest effort by the University in support of the national #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign, welcoming international students to study in the United States. The parking structure banner features images of 108 international students at Eastern representing more than 40 nations.

In addition to the new banner, Eastern has installed individual banners of each of the students on 108 light posts surrounding campus and extending into Ypsilanti.

The parking garage and light post banners are the latest effort by Eastern to support the national campaign. (See April 2017 campaign announcement news release.)

Earlier this year, Eastern released a #YouAreWelcomeHere video, which has generated several thousand views. The University also has developed an informational website providing resources for international students, created t-shirts celebrating the international community, and is currently working with the Washtenaw County Convention and Visitors Bureau to produce a new video about the city of Ypsilanti's support of the international community.

In total, Eastern enrolls nearly 1,000 international students from more than 80 countries.
