Media advisory: You're invited to cover MLK Commemorative March at EMU at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11

To interested media:

Eastern Michigan University's 32nd annual MLK celebration begins Thursday, Jan. 11 with a commemorative march that recalls the 1965 Selma to Montgomery March led by Martin Luther King, Jr. You are invited to cover this special march, which will involve many in the campus community and offer vivid images of unity and purpose.

The march will begin at the MLK Statue Garden, located between Boone and Welch halls on the south side of the EMU campus, and proceed to the Student Center, where there will be an MLK Celebration Opening Reception and Student Art Showcase.

Eastern's MLK celebration, one of the largest in Michigan, includes theatrical and drum performances, a day of service, a community conversation, academic program sessions, the annual keynote address, and more.  This year's keynote speaker is Joy-Ann Reid, a political analyst for MSNBC and host of “AM Joy,” who will speak in the Student Center Auditorium at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 15.

See the special MLK website for a complete schedule.

Please let me know if you are interested in covering Thursday's march or have questions about the MLK celebration at Eastern.
