YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University’s Dare2Design program is now accepting registrations for its weekly after-school program at SPARK East Innovation Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at SPARK East Innovation Center in Ypsilanti. The event occurs every Tuesday and will train participants to develop solutions to everyday problems using hands-on, project-based activities.
The program is EMUiNVENT’s Independent Inventors program for students grades second to twelve and is offered by Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business in collaboration with the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology.
“This program will allow students to become exposed to inventing and improving their innovative skills with a hands-on approach,” said Shiri Vivek, co-director of EMUiNVENT. “Students will leave prepared to solve complex problems and ultimately position themselves to earn high-paying opportunities.”
Participants will make friends while creating fun models and innovative products and learn how to convert ideas into reality with coding, 3D modeling, machine learning, and traditional building techniques.
Additionally, students will work with university professors and industry professionals with patenting knowledge and experience. The program uses a rigorously tested 8-step process to make it a fun and engaging time for all participants.
Students with the best solution-based projects will have an opportunity to showcase their prototypes at a regional EMUiNVENT competition following the completion of the program. EMUiNVENT 2023 will be held on March 10, 2023. Qualifying students will compete in the 2023 Invention Convention Michigan, organized by The Henry Ford.
The program will run for 14 weeks and registration can also be accessed through emich.edu/emuinvent. The fee is $358 per student and students may bring their own laptop. For more information about the program and scholarship opportunities, email emu_invent@emich.edu.
