YPSILANTI --  Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents Chair Eunice Jeffries will be among the featured panelists at the Black Women in Michigan Politics: A Non-Partisan Organization luncheon to celebrate Black women leaders in Michigan politics. The event takes place on Oct. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Washtenaw Community College's Morris Lawrence Building.

According to organizers, the event's purpose is to assemble Black women from across Michigan to educate, mentor, and find congruent solutions by providing the necessary resources and establishing a support system for Black women officials. Its vision is to collectively engage, network, and work through policy matters in real-time to increase and promote the presence of Black women in government, corporate, and nonprofit leadership.

Jeffries was appointed a regent of the University in 2016. In Jan. 2021, she became the first African-American woman to chair Eastern Michigan's Board of Regents.
