YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University’s School of Music and Dance, in collaboration with the Michigan Taiwanese American Organization, will host a live musical concert and fundraiser for student scholarships on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at Pease Auditorium, 494 College Pl in Ypsilanti.

The concert will feature an evening of music celebrating the life and legacy of Shing Cheng Seetoo and Zhiwen Situ, renowned artists of Taiwanese and Chinese descent, and encouraging more robust cross-cultural understanding through the performing arts. In addition, the concert will feature performances by Eastern’s School of Music and Dance artists, world-renowned faculty, special guests, and six-time Grammy award-winning producer and violinist Da-Hong Seetoo.

“This is an excellent opportunity to garner awareness of the quality of EMU’s School of Music and Dance,” said Christopher Barrick, director and professor for EMU’s School of Music and Dance. “We believe in connecting culture with the performing arts, which will help our students become more versatile in their performing arts initiatives, in addition to scholarship fundraising to support and expand program efforts.” 

The concert will include an announcement of two scholarship funds that will benefit EMU’s string students in the School of Music and Dance, the Shing Cheng Seetoo Endowed Scholarship in Orchestral Strings and the Zhiwen Situ Cello Scholarship. The scholarships will benefit the EMU Symphony Orchestra by supporting student musicians who play the violin, viola, cello, and double bass in the School of Music & Dance.

“We hope concertgoers will be inclined to donate to the Seetoo scholarship fund so we can continue to attract and support talented string students to our program,” said Barrick.

Attendees will enjoy a program featuring the following works: Lei Liang 梁雷: Feng for Solo Cello 大提琴独奏《风》, Tyzen Hsiao 蕭泰然: The Song of Taiwan 台灣, Huang Ruo 黃若: Wind Blows for Cello and Piano 起风, Robert Schumann: Piano Quartet in E♭ major, Op. 47, and Teng Yu-hsien 作曲: 鄧雨賢, arranged by Wei-Chieh Lin 編曲: 林煒傑: Spring Breeze 望春風.

Audience members will be seated 360 degrees around the artists for an intimate and memorable concert experience. The concert is free; however, registration is required to ensure seating.
