Eastern Michigan University offers paid Digital Summer Clinic internships in partnership with Ann Arbor SPARK

YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University's Center for Digital Engagement, in collaboration with Ann Arbor SPARK, is offering 48 paid internship positions through its 10th annual Digital Summer Clinic beginning June 10 to Aug. 9. The Clinic serves as a conduit, linking students from diverse backgrounds with real-world experiences. Hosted at Ypsilanti's Ann Arbor SPARK East Innovation Center, interns from a multitude of colleges will engage in hands-on projects directly with startups, fostering growth and innovation in a professional environment.

"The Digital Summer Clinic is designed to offer students more than just an internship," said Bud Gibson, founding director of the program and Eastern Michigan University's Center for Digital Engagement. "We provide students with hands-on opportunities, in addition to providing them with a strong support system that includes teammates, cohorts, and experienced mentors."

The Digital Summer Clinic allows students to work alongside professionals on projects directly impacting the success of startups. Interns will gain hands-on experience in content creation, digital marketing, UX design, computer science, social media, advertising, and data analysis.

The nine-week program offers interns a comprehensive learning experience, including:

  • Mentorship: Guidance from professionals at EMU, Zingerman's, Google, Duo Security, and Pinterest.
  • Cohort meetings: Weekly sessions where interns can discuss progress, receive career advice, and network with peers.
  • Portfolio building: Support creating a professional portfolio showcasing their work and accomplishments throughout the internship.

In addition to gaining experience, interns in the program will earn an hourly wage of $18 or more, depending on their role. Upon completing the program, interns will receive the SPARK Digital Media Certification and join a growing alumni network with placements at companies like Google, iProspect, and Accenture.

“The clinic helped me once land an opportunity at the University of Michigan,” said Grant Bradley, a 2022 Digital Summer Clinic intern and recent graduate of EMU. “With the internship's value in building a professional narrative, you're given a lot of creative freedom, which is beneficial when you graduate and are looking for work.”

The Digital Summer Clinic is currently accepting applications from current college students and recent graduates, regardless of their major or academic background. The program seeks candidates from diverse fields, including liberal arts, marketing, computer science, and data science, among others.

“I challenge those considering the internship always to be curious and give it a shot and to utilize their mentors,” said Sam Kinsler, a 2022 Digital Summer Clinic intern. “It provides opportunities you may not have yet discovered, allowing you to test your skills, enhance existing skills, or learn a new skill set.”

Applications for the Digital Summer Clinic are open until April 30. Interested applicants can learn more and apply on the webpage.
