YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University’s Digital Divas and Digital Dudes program hits the runway at Willow Run Airport on Saturday, Sept. 30 at noon. Aviation Day offers high school students the opportunity to engage with the world of aviation hands-on and interactively.

Students will have the chance to meet pilot mentors, interact and network with aviation professionals, tour an aviation facility, and connect with current EMU Aviation faculty and student pilots. Students will also get the chance to take a free discovery flight with STEM Flights. STEM Flights is a non-profit organization dedicated to introducing middle and high school students to STEM as it relates to aviation.

“Our goal for Digital Divas and Digital Dudes is to expose young girls and boys to every type of STEM career that exists,” said Bia Hamed, EMU’s director of K-12 STEM outreach and Digital Divas and Dudes program director. “STEM Flights is another avenue to help interest our students in aviation and the benefits of joining an ever-growing robust industry using hands-on, real-life experience.”

The program will reinforce the University's strategic mission to promote student success and engagement.

“The collaboration for Aviation Day is a testament to our shared commitment to inspire and educate the next generation of aviation enthusiasts," said Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology.

"Aviation Day provides local high school students with an unforgettable experience, allowing them to explore the possibilities that lie within the aviation industry," said Qatu.
