"Transition”

24 x 30 inches. (The frame in the exhibition is roughly 24 x 35.75 inches)

"A Blending of Worlds”

24 x 20 inches

I created the watercolor painting “Transition” during a season of change I was undergoing last fall. The still life was made with objects I had in the house as I was unpacking, with the cloth, dishes, and fruit bringing together aspects of my life before and after I moved. “A Blending of Worlds” uses acrylic paint and woven fabric strips to depict my sister, who has recently made a transition from one country and culture to another. The blending of warm and cool colors resembles the way my sister belongs to many places at once without fully fitting in. The interwoven fabric strips represent the weaving of memories, experiences, and cultures that have shaped her personality.
