Eastern Michigan University GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology to host TechTalk featuring EMU alumnus John Bodary, president and owner of Woods Construction & Interiors

YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology will host a TechTalk featuring EMU alumnus John Bodary,  president and owner of Woods Construction & Interiors, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The session will take place in 124 Sill Hall and via Zoom.

The EMU TechTalk series offers students and faculty opportunities to network with experts and up-and-coming leaders in engineering, technology, and related fields. Each TechTalk provides opportunities to explore careers, internships, and research opportunities at the College. 

"We are thrilled to welcome John Bodary back to EMU as a distinguished guest speaker for our TechTalk event during 'Careers in Construction' month," said Mohamed Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. 

"His expertise and accomplishments in the construction management field exemplify the caliber of professionals our institution produces, and we are eager to hear his perspectives on the latest developments in the industry,” said Qatu. 

Since launching EMU TechTalk, students and faculty have heard from industry leaders, including Mark Stainslav, vice president of security engineering and GRC from Full Story, Kiana Wenzell, co-executive director from Design Core Detroit, and Matt Wagner, manager of Renewable Energy Development at DTE Energy, to name a few.

Bodary’s presentation, titled, “Identifying Your Unique Niche In The Dynamic Construction Industry,” will focus on finding your audience and serving them in the construction industry. 

Woods Construction and Interiors is a nationwide contractor with more than 71 years of experience in General Contracting. The firm specializes in retail construction and serves national brands including Target, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Meijer, Dick’s Sporting Goods, TJ Maxx, PNC Bank, and others. Bodary has held various positions in the company starting from project monitor in 1984 to chief estimator and vice president of operations in 1988. Bodary became the president and owner in 1989. 

Bodary graduated from EMU in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in construction management. He serves on the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology Dean's Advisory Board and as an EMU Foundation Board Emeritus Trustee.

About John Bodary 
John Bodary graduated from EMU in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in construction management. Bodary has held various positions in the company starting from project monitor in 1984 to chief estimator and vice president of operations in 1988. Bodary became the president and owner in 1989. Bodary has been a national and local chapter member of the Associated General Contractors of America since 1987. Bodary also serves on the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology Dean's Advisory Board and as an EMU Foundation Board Emeritus Trustee. John and his wife, Michelle, have two children, and two grandchildren and are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter, Michigan.
