Saint Paul, MN — Aric Kirkland, director of desktop and classroom technology for Eastern Michigan University, was recognized by the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) as a recipient of their Outstanding Service Award on Nov.14, during the commission’s Annual Commission Meeting, held in Saint Paul, Minn.

“Aric brings a deep understanding of cooperative contracts,” said MHEC President Susan Heegaard. “His tireless efforts have played a pivotal role in the exponential growth of MHEC contract utilization, and we are grateful for all he has done for Michigan and the Midwest.” 

Kirkland was nominated for over 15 years of contributions to MHEC’s Technologies Community. He has chaired critical projects, including the Compact’s request for proposals (RFP) related to virtualization, statistical software, data center modernization, and end-user computing. He also recently co-chaired a data analytics RFP. His leadership in these initiatives helped drive innovation and ensured MHEC's technology contracts remained adaptable to member institutions' evolving needs.

“I am honored to be recognized for my contributions,” Kirkland stated. “The volunteers and staff at MHEC are my friends and family, sharing a passion for promoting and facilitating the mission of higher education across the region. Working with them on technology solutions has been an incredibly satisfying experience for my professional development. The connection to peers and broad network of resources to draw upon has been invaluable.,” Kirkland stated. 

Kirkland has been acknowledged by his peers for his dedicated service, fostering collaboration, and being a mentor to other committee members. MHEC volunteers play a significant role in guiding the committee work of MHEC programs and services.
