Eastern Michigan University to distribute holiday meal essentials to community during “Thankful For You” Drive-Thru Giveaway

15,000 pounds of food and locally sourced produce to support more than 500 local families

WHO: Eastern Michigan University President James Smith and Connie Ruhl-Smith, other EMU officials, EDining/Chartwells, EMU Credit Union, the Ann Arbor Community Foundation, Meijer, and a host of volunteers

WHAT: A Thanksgiving drive-thru donating meal essentials to those in need, limited to one giveaway per car

WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 pm.

WHERE: George Gervin GameAbove Center, located at 799 N. Hewitt Rd. in Ypsilanti

WHY: The “Thankful For You” Drive-Thru Giveaway will uplift spirits, showcase local food growers, and highlight EMU’s appreciation for the community. 

 

Background: In the spirit of the season, Eastern Michigan University is uniting with community partners to host a “Thankful For You" Drive-Thru Giveaway” on Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the George Gervin GameAbove Center, located at 799 N. Hewitt Rd. in Ypsilanti. The giveaway includes Thanksgiving staples such as turkeys, hams, and locally grown produce. It is limited to one per car. 

The “Thankful For You" Drive-Thru Giveaway” event is hosted by Eastern and sponsored by the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, James Smith and Connie Ruhl-Smith, Eastern Michigan University Credit Union, and Meijer. For more information, visit the website
