YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University’s Aviation Programs, part of the University’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology, have earned accreditation from Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) through July 2028. The accreditation solidifies EMU's position as a leading hub for aviation education and sets a benchmark for excellence in the field.
The AABI accreditation includes EMU Aviation’s two programs through the School of Technology and Professional Services Management, the B.S. in Flight Technology and the B.S. in Aviation Management Technology.
The Aviation Flight Technology program gives aviation flight students the skills, knowledge and FAA certifications for a successful aviation flight career. The Aviation Management Technology program focuses on providing aviation management students a balanced curriculum of business and airport management expertise.
With a 100% career placement rate, EMU students with aviation degrees are employed by airlines, aircraft manufacturers, the FAA, airport operators and air cargo/freight carriers, corporate aviation, airport operations, and airport organizations. Graduates become certified airline pilots, air traffic controllers, flight instructors, military pilots, airport operations managers, airline dispatchers, and airfield operations managers and directors.
The AABI serves as the official accrediting body for all collegiate aviation. Eastern joins only 44 other institutions with AABI accreditation. This recognition reflects EMU's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation education and preparing students for successful careers in the aviation industry.
Eastern’s strengths that led to the accreditation include:
"Receiving accreditation from AABI is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students. This recognition affirms our commitment to providing quality aviation education that meets the highest industry standards,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “This is a major step forward for our aviation programs which will bring additional opportunities for our students and excellent employment opportunities for our graduates. This is a significant addition to the college's continuous pursuit of excellence. It will add to the other major accreditation for our programs in engineering, cybersecurity, construction management, interior design, and others,” Qatu added.
As the aviation industry continues to evolve and face new challenges, EMU's accredited programs are well-positioned to adapt their curriculum and ensure that graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a dynamic and rapidly changing field.
“Securing the accreditation gives those interested in our programs an immediate sense of confidence in our Aviation department–great programs, excellent faculty, and dedicated students,” said Paul Majeske, professor and director of the School of Technology and Professional Services Management. “As we continue to build, providing exceptional aviation education and fostering the next generation of aviation leaders is our top priority.”
