Top Honors for Central and Riverside Academies at Eastern Michigan University's Math Facts Challenge

Students from grades first through eighth participate in a Math Facts challenge.

YPSILANTI — In a display of friendly competition, a few hundred students from grades first through eight gathered at Eastern Michigan University’s campus for the annual Math Challenge. Central Academy in Ann Arbor took home the first-place elementary school trophy, while Riverside Academy clinched the middle school trophy. The challenge is hosted by EMU’s Charter Schools Office.

The challenge is designed for students to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics as they face exciting and challenging grade-level appropriate questions. 

The competition, structured like the NCAA bracket, saw students pitted against each other in their grade-level break-out rooms. The final four students from each grade room returned to the ballroom for the ultimate showdown.

All mathletes received a participation ribbon and a souvenir bag. The schools that participated this year are as follows:
